Mom I Survivor I Podcast Host I Speaker

I've always been passionate—and a little bit stubborn. That determination became one of my greatest strengths when I found myself navigating the aftermath of domestic abuse and the systems that followed.

I'm Ingrid Dutton, a survivor, advocate, and host of both 1 in 3 and Legal Abuse Explained. While leaving an abusive relationship was one of the hardest things I've ever done, I quickly learned that for many survivors, the abuse doesn't always end when the relationship does. It can continue through custody disputes, court proceedings, financial strain, and the misuse of legal systems designed to provide protection.

As I connected with other survivors, I began hearing the same themes over and over again: feeling overwhelmed, unheard, isolated, and trapped in processes they didn't fully understand. I realized that what many were experiencing had a name—legal abuse—and that far too few people were talking about it.

After meeting Karen Tosoni, it only felt natural that this collaboration would happen.

That's why Legal Abuse Explained was created.

Through conversations with attorneys, mental health professionals, financial experts, advocates, and survivors, my goal is to help listeners better understand the realities of legal abuse and provide practical tools for navigating its challenges. Knowledge is power, and informed survivors are better equipped to advocate for themselves and their families.

My hope is that this podcast helps survivors feel less alone, more empowered, and better prepared to face the road ahead.
